We were thrilled when Au/Ra returned late last month with her new single “Emoji.” The young artist picked up right where she left off earlier in the year with the release, and we loved the track. Today Au/Ra released the music video for “Emoji,” With Halloween around the corner, the spooky video arrived just at the right time (via Billboard).
Things start off innocently enough. Au/Ra’s in her room and goes to her mirror in order to get ready for a night out. Once the chorus hits, she begins to move unnaturally though. It’s clear something is wrong, but neither we nor Au/Ra can figure out what it is. Things get worse and worse until an idea forms: maybe the Au/Ra in the video isn’t entirely human. Just like the video for “Panic Room,” “Emoji” balances the music with some creepy ideas and visuals to amazing effect.
