Pop artist Au/Ra spent the better part of 2017 and the early months of 2018 taking the world by storm with singles like “Outsiders” and “Panic Room” and the unique visuals that went with them. Today, Au/Ra has returned once again with “Emoji,” her most pop-inspired single to date.

“Emoji” captures a similar electronic sound as Au/Ra’s previous singles, but with a brighter tone and a quicker rhythm. It’s a quick and exciting sound, zooming along with Au/Ra’s expressive and captivating voice pairing well with the large scale production works. The track wisely leaves her voice untouched for the most part, only adding an electronic tinge to it while she sings the titular phrase. “Emoji” is about a digital relationship and all the stresses and uncertainties that come with communicating someone in a mostly electronic way. The writing smartly captures the shifting usage and meaning behind those cute little expressions we send alongside our texts.

You can listen to “Emoji” below. The single is taken from Au/Ra’s debut EP. Details are scarce about the release, but stay tuned for more details. Au/Ra will also spend the next few weeks opening for Tove Stryke on tour. A list of those dates is also included after the jump.
