If you haven’t heard of Charming Liars, then it’s likely you just haven’t been paying attention. Having already played shows for bands like Angels & Airwaves, Tokio Hotel, and many more, the band have been making waves in the industry and developing a growing fanbase.
This London-born, Los Angeles-based alternative-rock band first was co-founded by guitarist and producer Karnig Manoukian and bassist Mike Kruger, and in 2013 the pair took the leap and moved to LA where they hooked up with singer Kiliyan Maguire. They wasted no time, ultimately writing and recording alongside songwriter/producer John Feldmann (Panic! at the Disco, 5 Seconds of Summer, blink-182).
Continuing to push forward, the band put out their debut album, Thought, Flesh, and Bone, just last year, and showed they were ready for the big stage. On top of the impressive list of aforementioned artists, Charming Liars just a few weeks back wrapped up a U.K. tour with Palaye Royale and dropped a new song called “Golden State.”
Today, Substream is excited to team up with this promising, high-level talent to debut the music video to “Golden State.” For the video, it perfectly captures what the spirit of California is to Charming Liars, and reflects on the band’s journey in music up to this point. If you’re just now getting into the band, there’s no more prefect place to start than right here.
Explains to Substream on the video, Karnig says, “For the video we wanted to show the world what we see in California and LA on a daily basis. We didn’t want to present anything in an unnatural state so we spent a week just capturing different moments throughout the day. In the end I think we have an accurate depiction of the personality and character of the ‘Golden State’ that we live in and that we ultimately thrive in. In terms of putting it together, Mike (bass) directed the video so we were very much in control from beginning to end.”
