The year of Marshmello continues…
It is impossible to avoid current Substream cover star Marshmello in 2018. There is no corner of music the masked producer has yet to touch, and so far everything he’s released has found success on the Billboard charts. “Friends” is the latest example of this, catapulting both Marshmello and vocalist Anne-Marie into the spotlight, and last night the pair took their megahit to the world of late night for their Jimmy Fallon debut.
As viewed above, Marshmello and Anne-Marie performed “Friends” for Fallon’s popular late night show on Tuesday evening. The performance featured minimalist production, which is rare for an artist like Marshmello, but thanks to Anne-Marie’s commanding vocals no extra bells or whistles were needed to hold our attention.
The success of “Friends” should come as a surprise to no one who has followed either of these artists. Both Anne-Marie and Marshmello had a massive 2017, so it only makes sense that their first big single of the new year builds on the already strong fanfare both are experiencing. It is impossible to know just how long the song will continue to dominate the charts, but considering it is the fact it is the first track from either artist to earn a late night appearance it seems safe to assume it will be with us for the foreseeable future.
