When you think of figure skating routines, chances are you picture classical music and elegant movements. This tends to be a winning formula, but one skater decided to change things up a bit at the recent U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Instead of a classic like a cut from The Nutcracker or Swan Lake, Queens, N.Y. native Jimmy Ma performed his routine to D.J. Snake‘s “Propaganda” and “Turn Down For What.” Ma’s routine included the jumps and spins we’ve all come to expect from a top-level skater, but he added a flair and style that certainly set him apart from his fellow competitors.

While the video of his routine has gone viral online, sadly it did not prove to be a winner, as Ma ended up placing eleventh. We hope that doesn’t discourage him, though- if nothing else, watching him “Turn Down For What” on the ice was easily the most entertaining moment of the competition, and perhaps it’ll inspire other skaters to follow his lead and think outside of the box with their choice for music.
