It is unclear whether or not the hype for Sleep On It‘s debut full-length could be any more deafening than it is right now, but the young men from Chicago are determined to ensure this release is one people won’t soon forget. Just a few short weeks ago they announced Overexposed by revealing the video for their song “Distant,” and today they’re back in our headlines with yet another new song to hook any pop-punk believers who have yet to be converted to the church of SOI.
Available to stream at the top of this post, “Window” is an immediately catchy song built from a fairly familiar foundation. The song uses windows as a metaphor to describe the way romantic entanglements can make you see the world with fresh eyes. Whether they do so intentionally or not, the people we form emotional bonds with have a way of helping us reconsider our perspective on things, and when they leave our side that outlook tends to disappear as well. We can remember the way it felt to be with them, but memories are never enough.
“Window” is sure to become a staple of Sleep On It live shows. After you watch the video once or twice go ahead and hit play once more while you read the lyrics below and commit them to memory. You should also preorder Overexposed, which you can do right now through numerous online retailers. The album will be released worldwide on November 3.
Always feeling better when I carry less
In the city with the biggest shoulders I confess
That I don’t know where I’m going
Burn my heart down to feel it hurting
You can be the hook I wish I never bit
While I’m caught up in a fist fight on a sinking ship
And I’m stuck here forever floating
On a reel that you’ll never pull in
You were a window
I saw it all differently through you
Now I carry on quietly
And I say, I say
I’ll carry you with me
You say everything is gonna be okay
You were everything I wished that I could be
The world was heavy on your back and I could never see
The strength it took to keep from falling
While I’m out here forever calling
Your name
Just wishing that you would have stayed
By me
I miss you every day
Maybe
I’ll see you down the line
But god damn I miss when you were mine
You were a window
I saw it all differently through you
Now I carry on quietly
And I say, I say
I’ll carry you with me
You say everything is gonna be
Oh
Every word I’ve ever
Sold
Makes me feel like I’m on my own
And I’ll never be the same without you here
You were a window
I saw it all differently through you
Now I carry on quietly
And I say, I say
I’ll carry you with me
You say everything is gonna be okay
