Kim Petras

The Riv // Chicago, IL // November 27, 2019

This queen will be selling out stadiums in no time.

The night before Thanksgiving, hundreds of cold, excited teenagers and adults lined up outside The Riv to see Kim Petras. Talking to some of her fans, many had been there for 8 hours or longer to get a front row spot to see their favorite pop star (although the teenagers’ parents decided to stay in the car). It’s no surprise she’s drawing these types of crowds; Kim Petras is well on her way to becoming an international superstar.

Seeing Kim Petras appear onstage was akin to seeing Ariana Grande or Demi Lovato in a massive stadium. Petras’ stage presence, dance moves, and incredible outfits are something to behold. But, unlike some of her pop counterparts, Petras’ vocals are just as amazing live as they are recorded. The 27-year old queer icon has the chops to back up her pop star status, and her love for her fans is undeniable. Petras is trans and very vocal about her love for her queer community, and her fans are willing to defend her to the death.

The Clarity Tour has been a massive success, and Petras’ show in Chicago was nearly flawless. Naturally, she opened her set with “Clarity” the title track from her 2019 debut album. She stayed toward the back of the stage on the risers for “Clarity”, but she came down to sing to her fans during “Got My Number“. I was delighted at Petras’ stage presence; not only did she smile for her fans, she smile for the camera. It’s rare that a pop star acknowledges the media during a show, but Petras loved the photographers. There are few artists I say this about, but I would love to tour with Kim Petras. Her adorable smile, serious vocals, and incredible fanbase make her a force to be reckoned with. I for one want to be part of her movement.

Kim Petras is currently on tour promoting Clarity and will be heading back to her home country of Germany in January 2020. For tour info, click HERE.
