American Gentlemen may have some familiar names behind the project, but it’s not like anything you’ve heard from those names previously. Behind the project is Brendan Saller (Atreyu/Hell or Highwater) and R&B writer/producer, Christopher “C4” Umana. Saller is perhaps best known for being the drummer and clean vocalist of Atreyu, while the Nigerian-American rapper/songwriter/producer hails from Atlanta, Georgia and has produced songs on several number 1 albums including Big Sean’s Dark Sky Paradise, Trey Songz’ Trigga, and Kelly Rowland’s Here I Am.
The two first me back in 2014 in a studio where Saller was recording live drums for a mutual friend. However, they didn’t schedule a studio session together until early-2016. From that session, American Gentlemen was born combining C4’s southern hospitality and Saller’s west coast flavor. Their debut, self-titled EP came in the fall of 2016, followed by another EP in 2018, featuring the lead single “Undefeated,” and even made their live debut in.
Now, American Gentlemen is back and better than ever. They’ll be releasing their new EP, Ghosts, next Friday, October 18th, but Substram is excited to be teaming up with American Gentlemen to bring the title-track to you a little bit early. On the new track, Saller shares that “‘Ghosts’ started essentially writing itself about 6 months back while walking the streets of New Orleans at night. We went out after our show and the energy in that town just sort of seeped into me.
