It’s crazy to think that Good at Falling was Amber Bain’s first album. Sure, she released quite a bit of music (two EPs and a myriad of singles) under The Japanese House moniker, but it feels like it’s been so long since her ambient, bedroom-poppy ballads crashed onto the music spotlight and made a scene. A founder of sorts for today’s uber-popular bedroom-pop genre, Baine has spent much of the last four years keeping us on our toes, releasing singles from the album here and there and giving us rare, at-will glances into her mind. The waiting, though, was well worth it. The resulting album was riddled with a precision and lyrical mastery so far beyond the level of a debut album that it makes you wonder whether she’s been doing all of this for longer than she’s let on. But despite everything that should suggest otherwise, it is the English artist’s first album— and it’s so good that it warrants yet another headlining tour.
Fresh off a spring tour that saw her make a few of the same stops, The Japanese House prepares to head out on the road again, crossing the east and west coast quite extensively while also making a few stops in the midwest. The trek, set to begin in October, will include festival stops at Austin City Limits and Corona Capital, as well as dates at New York’s Warsaw and LA’s the Wiltern. You can see a full list of dates below, and find tickets for all shows here.
