Cherry Hill, NJ’s Sleep In. has shared the first single, “Deena”, off their forthcoming album, The Stars On Your Ceiling, slated for release March 22.

The fun, pop-punk single sees Sleep In. wielding their guitars, and if it’s any indication of what’s to come, then fans can expect an album that both captures the early ’00s punk-rock aesthetic and brings something new to the table.

“We definitely feel this record is a big step forward for us in terms of songwriting,” guitarist Eric McNelis explained of their sophomore effort in a press release. “This record came together very organically and there wasn’t a lot of laboring over the songwriting and arrangements. We really let the music dictate the direction.”

As a result of this revamped mindset, the tracks on this LP showcase a band more comfortable with exploring the more intricate pop sensibilities instead of channeling out pure adrenaline. Storytelling now locks into forward position, allowing the band to more directly tackle the warm pull of nostalgia.

The Stars On Your Ceiling is currently available for preorder here. Having previously been signed to Hide Away Records, The Stars On Your Ceiling also marks the first release under new management, Philly-based Know Hope Records.

Sleep In. has also announced a short string of tour dates to celebrate album release day, where they will be joined by fellow rockers Cabana Wear (who recently announced a March release date for their own self-titled debut). A conglomerate of Philly-based post-punk veterans just like Sleep In., Cabana Wear’s sound is a bit of a sharp contrast to SI.’s, with its fuzzed-out guitars and undeniable hooks that call to mind any famous element of ’90s alternative. Nonetheless, their music seems to compliment each other’s well, each calling upon a different decade to propel their music forward.
