Getting over a relationship isn’t easy, but sometimes, we just have to cut ties and let go. Of course, coming to that realization is often the hardest part, and when we reach the point where things are starting to go bad, it’s a natural reaction to fight to make them better again before accepting that hope is indeed lost. Lauv’s new single “Chasing Fire” sees the singer fighting to save a relationship that’s already doomed, as he sings in the pre-chorus, “I couldn’t bring myself to say goodbye.”
Lauv says of the song, “’Chasing Fire’ is about fighting for something that’s already over. It’s the beginning of the end. It’s desperation. It’s grand. But it’s hopeless.”
“Chasing Fire” comes as the latest addition to I met you when I was 18., Lauv’s ongoing playlist. The playlist has provided a more organic opportunity to consume the songs: while they all form a story, much like the tracks on an album would, the listener gets to hear them one at a time as Lauv creates them.
Lauv is currently in the middle of the I met you when I was 18. world tour; after hitting North America, Japan, Australia, and (most recently) New Zealand earlier this year, he’ll be heading to Europe in April.
