David Byrne, former frontman of Talking heads, has announced his upcoming album, American Utopia. Byrne will be releasing the album on March 9th, and you can pre-order it now here.

The first single “Everybody’s Coming to My House” can be streamed above. The song was co-written with longtime collaborator Brian Eno, and features contributions from Sampha, TTY and Onyx Collective’s Happa Isaiah Barr.

Regarding the new release, David Byrne said, “These songs don’t describe an imaginary or possibly impossible place but rather attempt to depict the world we live in now. Many of us, I suspect, are not satisfied with that world—the world we have made for ourselves. We look around and we ask ourselves—well, does it have to be like this? Is there another way? These songs are about that looking and that asking.”

American Utopia will be Byrne’s first solo album since 2004’s Grown Backwards, though he has remained busy since then. In 2009, he released a collaborative album with Eno, and in 2012 he released another collaborative album with St. Vincent.

In addition, Byrne has announced a handful of east coast shows to accompany the release of American Utopia. He promises the live show will be “the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense, so fingers crossed.” Stop Making Sense is, of course, the seminal 1984 live album from Talking Heads.
