Technology has the power to bring us together, but sometimes that connection doesn’t run as deep as we hope- and sometimes, it can even tear us apart. With Confidence are known for writing catchy pop-punk songs built for undeniable singalongs, but they’ve also got a way of hitting real, honest emotions. The Sydney, Australia natives’ latest effort is the music video for “Waterfall”, and for anyone unfamiliar, it’s a good introduction to what With Confidence is all about. In between magenta-hued shots of the group performing, we see a couple caught up in a virtual reality experience. At first, it seems like they just might be able to connect through headsets and video screens, but soon enough we realize that nothing can replace real human contact. You can watch the video above, though be prepared for the tears to hit you like a (dare we say it?) waterfall.
Vocalist / bassist Jayden Seeley says of the video, “Our video for Waterfall is an exploration of technology’s effect on the modern relationship. We live in a world where instant-gratification has devalued honest human interaction. This video is a look into a likely future where we find ourselves more distanced than ever.”
With Confidence formed back in 2012, when Seeley, guitarist Inigo Del Carmen, and drummer Joshua Brozzesi met while in high school; guitarist Luke Rockets was added to the mix in 2014. Following the June 2016 release of their debut album Better Weather, the band made their stateside debut with a run on the Vans Warped Tour last summer. They’ve spent the past year touring the globe with everyone from 5 Seconds of Summer to State Champs, and in August they released two B-Sides from Better Weather, “Here For Nothing” and “Poison”, both of which can be heard below.
If the “Waterfalls” video hasn’t made you fall in love with With Confidence yet, seeing them live certainly will.
