Pacific Rim was a movie about giant robots (called Jaegers) punching giant monsters (called Kaiju) in the face. With direction from Guillermo del Toro, it looked beautiful and was an incredibly fun action flick. News about the sequel has been floating around seemingly since the release of the first one, but now we have something concrete to dissect. This afternoon the first trailer dropped for the second movie, entitled Pacific Rim Uprising.

The film stars John Boyega as Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost from the first Pacific Rim. Many years have passed since the first round of the Kaiju War was won, but now the creatures are back again. Set to a remix of Tupac’s “Untouchable,” the second trailer promises even more of what audiences loved from the first film. The Jaegers look sleeker and more heavily armed, and the Kaiju are massive while still retaining their fantastically grotesque design. It’s not a whole new cast, as Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman are all seen reprising their roles in the trailer.

Steven S. DeKnight is taking over the director’s seat for the sequel, with del Toro serving as a producer. Pacific Rim Uprising battles into theaters on March 23, 2018. You can watch the trailer above.
