It was no secret where Warner Bros. Pictures was headed with DC after Man of Steel came out in 2013. A sizable section of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was even spent showing off a potential team, and it has “Justice” right in the title. Since that time we’ve been teased with short clips and posters, but this weekend we got to see even more with the release of the first Justice League trailer.
Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Godot) both know that the threat Lex Luthor foretold of us is fast approaching, so they assemble a team of other superheroes out of Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and The Flash (Ezra Miller). The villains serving as cannon fodder for the team appear to be mechanical angel-type creatures, and we see everyone take down at least a handful of them. We’re also still pretending that Superman (Henry Cavill) is seriously dead even though we all know better. Here’s the trailer:
We’re cautiously optimistic. The jokes aren’t laugh out loud hilarious but still land, the action looks better and more stylish than in previous DC movies, and Affleck’s quest to be the grumpiest Batman ever is on full display. We have until November 17 to analyze this trailer and receive more footage from Justice League to see if Zach Snyder has finally cracked the code. Here’s to hoping.
