Originally the solo project of Matt Mascarenas (Heartless Breakers), the now full-band Westing will be releasing their first EP as such on April 14. Titled I Haven’t Been Feeling Myself, the five-track effort benefits from the updated roster with a much louder and more refined sound than that found on Westing’s earlier works. Having both Brett Romnes (I Am The Avalanche) and Gary Cioni (ex-Daytrader) added to what Mascarenas had already proven to be impressive when carried solely by himself has resulted in a catchy, memorable release that really presents no weaknesses.
To coincide with the announcement of I Haven’t Been Feeling Myself, Westing has joined up with Substream to also share the EP’s lead single, “With You,” whose opening line appears to have spawned the EP’s title. “With You” is a guitar-driven rocker that revolves around the idea that even if you’re down on yourself and what’s going on around you, all you really need is that special someone whose presence alone can dissipate any other negativity. Touching on the impetus for the creation of “With You,” Mascarenas says:
“I was so caught up in everything going wrong. I realized I had to become present in the moment and shift my focus to what truly makes me happy. I needed to get out of my head.”
