Detroit native Jax Anderson, performing under the name Flint Eastwood, is a beloved staple in the Michigan music scene. She’s set to reach that same level of renown nationally, with a seriously excellent new single, “Queen,” to propel her. The track premiered today via Billboard.

The song fits the title, with regal horns blaring throughout the song. It’s an intricately crafted pop anthem with a palpable fire and energy running through it. The impassioned and empowering rallying cry of the song, “I’m a queen, not a solider,” and Anderson’s delivery will give you chills. In a Facebook post, Anderson explained:

“I wrote this song at a time when I was taking other people’s views and creating an identity for myself that I didn’t even recognize. I went in for an interview and was asked what it was like being a woman in music and everything just clicked: I’m a queen, not a soldier. I’m just as capable as anyone else and it’s time to start taking control of my life again.”

“Queen” is out now on Neon Gold Records. You can listen below. As noted in the Billboard piece, Flint Eastwood will be gifting us with a new EP sometime before summer. Her last EP, Small Victories, was released in 2015.
