Anna Moon is a name you’ll want to pay attention to going forward. The Georgia native takes old school influences and makes them shine alongside modern pop sensibilities, as evidenced by a trio of singles in 2018. She’s made her return today with new single “Tightrope,” and she hasn’t lost a beat in the last year.
“Tightrope” is built on a musical bed as delicate as the titular rope. The light piano harkens back to mid-20th century songs, but the song doesn’t use just those sounds for long. Producer Jamie Kenney quickly brings in a decidedly current beat to groove with, and the mix of the sounds is definitely pleasing. Moon can also belt with the best of them, and her message about building confidence and growing into herself after moving on from a relationship is inspirational and relatable. The lyricism on display is just as great as the musical blend it goes along with. And I’ll repeat myself for emphasis: Moon can sing. If you need a tune to blare in the car this weekend, “Tightrope” is it.
