BANKS fans have not been lacking in news recently. Between her return single “Gimme,” the announcement of new album III, and a list of tour dates, there’s been plenty to get excited about. That excitement hits entirely new levels today, as BANKS has shared the release date for III alongside new track “Look What You’re Doing To Me,” which features Francis and the Lights.
Let’s talk about the track first. “Look What You’re Doing To Me” is a quintessential BANKS track. The song focuses on the unbridled surge of emotion that comes with falling in love, and her powerhouse vocals sell each and every twist and turn as she processes all of the feelings flowing through her heart. BJ Burton’s production layers vocals and synths into a richly full musical experience, but it never bogs down. This is in large part due to Francis and the Lights (Francis Farewell Starline) on the production and on the performance. Starline’s piano playing and fluttering vocals add an extra helping of lovestruck wonder and awe to “Look What You’re Doing To Me,” and his characteristically soft, measured approach to production keeps the whole song flowing smoothly. If this is what the rest of III is going to be like, we’re in for a treat.
Speaking of III, we don’t have to wait very long for it. BANKS’s third album is set for release on July 12 through Harvest Records. Pre-orders in all formats are now available here. In the meantime, you can listen to “Look What You’re Doing To Me” featuring Francis and the Lights below.
