There are people who leave a lasting impression in our lives. They’re around for our biggest triumphs and our hardest defeats. These individuals truly become a part of us, and we think they’ll always be around. We all know that’s not how it always turns out, though. People leave us for various reasons, and they leave a void behind. Even when we think we’ve moved on, part of them always stays with us and will pop up from time to time. Pensacola Beach’s Young Natives have been thinking about this a lot. They’ve put their thoughts into the song “Back To You,” and we’re premiering the track here this morning.
The track is moody and slow, as the band immediately gets pulled into the past. It seems even the smallest of details in everyday life are reminders of an ex, and the lyrics focus on how those reminders are an ever-present reality. “Back To You” remains measured and composed, with the chords in each progression lingering behind the percussion. The soft piano chords fit the mood perfectly and serve as the final piece of the puzzle on the track. Just as the band can’t stop thinking back on this person, “Back To You” is constructed as a song that lingers and dwells with the listener.
