Vampire Weekend has finally released their video for “Harmony Hall” this morning.
The Emmett Malloy-directed video took on a snakes-and-cooking theme, and features Koenig gliding about in a white t-shirt, flipping pancakes and dancing around with remaining members Chris Baio and Chris Tomson. It’s strange not seeing an appearance by Rostam Batmanglij, as this would be their first video since his official departure from the group in 2016 (although it is reported, however, that he is creatively involved in Father of the Bride). But, the band seems to have kept the same whimsical aire, proving that while they may have lost a member, they have not lost their energy.
Although the “Harmony Hall” video features Jonah Hill, this isn’t to be confused with the Jonah Hill-directed video that saw him and Ezra Koenig shlepping around the Zabar’s on the Upper West Side as shoppers continued about their business. It’s still unclear what song that was for, and it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit more for that one. For now, watch Koenig and the band (and Dev Hynes!) make pancakes with snakes below.
In case you missed it, the band has recently come back from a six-year hiatus, with double singles “Harmony Hall” and “2021” their first new music of the year. The band also recently announced some North American tour dates. Their comeback (and fourth) album, ‘Father of the Bride’, is due out for a spring release, although no exact date has been announced yet. See a list of Vampire Weekend’s tour dates here.
Malloy also directed videos for “Giving Up the Gun” & “Holiday“, and the iconic Blink-182’s “First Date”.
