Ships Have Sailed is the brainchild of vocalist/guitarist Will Carpenter, who started this new project in the waning days of his previous project. He initially shared with a few different musicians and then recruited drummer Art Andranikyan as a permanent member — this decision, albeit an incredibly daunting one, has paid off so far.

2013 saw Ships Have Sailed release their debut EP, Somebody, with their full-length album, Moodswings, following in 2015 and showing a more cohesive sound with epic ambitions. Their most recent single, “Let’s Just Dance,” came out last year and was a collaborative effort with songwriter Robert Gillies (X Ambassadors, Bebe Rexha) and producer Wally Gagel (Best Coast, Family of the Year) of recording studio WAX LTD.

Now Today, we are excited to team up with Ships Have Sailed to debut their new single, “Escape.” The single is vulnerable, uplifting, and raw all at the same time. Musically, the duo crafts and indie-rock sound with undeniable pop sensibilities — with the end result being an anthemic, yet brutally honest track. You can find our stream of the single and the music video — directed by Michael Easterling & Jaala Ruffman of Talkboy TV — below.

“There’s a certain beauty in pain, and there is strength in struggle,” explains lead singer and songwriter Carpenter. “For me, ‘Escape’ represents the struggle of an extended period of time…one that pushed me to break new ground and explore new techniques in order to find sounds and forms of expression that I didn’t even know I needed.”

New music from Ships Have Sailed is expected to come in 2019. If you like what you hear from them and “Escape,” you can keep up with them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
