Ah, summer. A time of no responsibilities, late nights, fireflies— and music festivals. Music festival season is fast approaching, and festival-lineup-announcement season is finally upon us. If you were waiting for this lineup to start planning your summer festival run, wait no more, as the 9th annual GovBall lineup has finally been revealed. Slated to be headlined by industry giants Tyler The Creator, Brockhampton, Florence + The Machine, The 1975, SZA, and more, the beloved GovBall will return to NYC’s Randall’s Island on May 31, for the East Coast’s first big festival of the summer.
While the lineup has seen a notable change from years past (as its usually pulled in a number of indie rock and alternative artists), this year sees GovBall moving towards an even more diverse lineup, with rap more of a focal point this year than ever. With popular acts such as Sheck Wes, Playboi Carti, Denzel Curry, and others, GovBall should pull in an even bigger crowd.
Heading the lineup is Brockhampton, who are finally back on the festival circuit after the recent release of their junior album, Iridescence. For all the hype surrounding the release we’re surprised we didn’t see them on the Coachella lineup, but we NYers are excited to have them for ourselves. This festival also marks the return of The Strokes, whose raw thrill and nostalgic jaggedness hasn’t seen the light of day in the US for almost three years, according to Consequence. Casablancas will also be performing that weekend with his other band, The Voidz.
Governor’s Ball returns to the islands of Randall from May 31- June 2. Tickets are currently onsale here, with special “Announcement Day” pricing in effect tonight until 11:59PM EST. Check out the full lineup below, and stay tuned for coverage!
