John Nolan (of Taking Back Sunday, Straylight Run) has announced that his new solo album, Abendigo, will be released on November 2nd via Collective Confusion Records. It will be Nolan’s first solo record since 2015’s Sad Strange Beautiful Dream.
Earlier this year, Nolan entered the studio with producer Mike Sapone (who has previously worked with Taking Back Sunday), and engineer Brett Romnes (Free Throw, Sorority Noise). Altogether, the three were able to capture the vision that Nolan had in mind for Abendigo, as it combines rock, electronic, and ambient music into one. “This album combines sounds and styles in a way I never have before. Lyrically it also combines approaches in a new way. It shifts from the personal to societal, direct to abstract and deals with loss and happiness equally. In the end though, it all fits together to form a cohesive album,” Nolan explains.
In addition to the Abendigo announcement, Nolan has released the first single called “Do You Remember?” The track is a perfect representation of this new sound that he aimed to create, as it’s got an undeniable catchy aspect to it that Nolan has proved he can create, whilst mixing in some Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead influences to keep thing fresh. You can hear the song for yourself at the top of the post.
If you enjoy “Do You Remember?” or just enjoy Nolan in general, you can pre-order your own copy of Abendigo here.
