August is a big month for Daniel Ellsworth + The Great Lakes. The end of the month sees the release of the band’s new album, Fashion. We’ve already heard a fair amount of the album with the releases of Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of the project earlier this year, but there’s still new music from Ellsworth + The Great Lakes before the full album is out. Yesterday the band shared new track “Running” and it’s accompanying music video (via The 405).

“Running” is on the softer side of what we’ve heard so far, with warbling synths mirroring Ellsworth’s melody as he sings. There’s still a heavier guitar riff that comes in shortly into the song, and the chorus features a satisfyingly exciting drum part, but the mood of “Running” still is one that will keep you reflective and serene as you listen.

The video finds Daniel Ellsworth + The Great Lakes performing in front of brightly colored backgrounds in various beautiful buildings, similar to how a photography session is set up. Directed by Joe Gomez, the video for “Running” tells the story of the highs and lows of a couple, played by Danielle Maltby and Doy Gardner. The story is mostly told through a series of looks between the actors and changes in the color of the backgrounds reflecting the mood of the scene. It’s a simple and enchanting way to tell a story, and it makes for a compelling music video.

You can watch the video for “Running” above. Fashion is set for full release on August 24.
