A little over a month ago, Gatherers released a new track called “The Floorboards Are Breathing.” It was the first piece of music that the band had released since their 2015 album, Quiet World.
Today, we are proud to be exclusively premiering the music video for “The Floorboards Are Breathing.” The song was inspired by One Minute to Nine — a documentary that about one of the worst recorded cases of domestic abuse — which means that there would need to be an equally eerie video to accompany it. That’s exactly what Gatherers have done.
The video begins with a woman – whose face is never shown – singing to herself, with her arms wrapped around herself. In between shots of the band playing, the same woman is shown lining up knives around a cutting board before using each one to stab at the space between her outstretched fingers.
“The vision was to create a video with a very clinical and composed look, yet nuanced with the feeling of uneasiness,” Gatherer’s Rich Weinberger explains. “We wanted to create this bold dichotomy between the colors of the drapes which served the performance shots and B-roll respectively. Ultimately, we landed on these mid-century shades of yellow and French blue – heavily inspired by the photographs of both William Eggleston and Alex Prager. We also included an homage to Marina Abramovic’s ‘Rhythm 10’ (1973.) combined with our love for the Twilight Zone episode ‘The After Hours.'”
That’s not the only piece of news we have for you, though. We are excited to announce that Gatherers will be releasing their new album, We Are Alive Beyond Repair, on June 1st via Equal Vision Records. Pre-orders for the record are currently up here.
