Ariana Grande‘s album Dangerous Woman was one of my favorite releases of 2016. The epic ballad that is the title track is still something I listen to often. Grande’s powerhouse vocals and some slick production are always a winning combo. That was true in 2016, and it’s true today. This morning, Grande returned to claim her place on the pop mountain of 2018 with new single “No Tears Left To Cry.”
It’s always a bummer when a relationship ends or when someone doesn’t reciprocate your feelings, but there’s always a light at the end of each one of those tunnels. It’s this sentiment that Grande sings about on “No Tears Left To Cry.” A slow, billowing intro might lead you to believe this is a ballad, but you’d be mistaken. The song quickly morphs into an uptempo, synthy rollercoaster with a beat that will propel you into your bright future.
Grande has been teasing the song on Twitter with upside-down writing, which makes sense given the accompanying music video. Grande dances her way through a variety of ornate hallways and towering skyscrapers, all while gravity and perspective shift in fantastic ways.
You can watch the video for “No Tears Left To Cry” above. Hopefully this is not the last we hear from Ariana Grande this year, so stay tuned to Substream for more as it comes.
