Black Foxxes have released a new single and music video for “Manic In Me.” It is the second single released from their upcoming album, Reiði, which is set to be released on March 16th via Spinefarm Records. You can currently pre-order the record here.
Regarding the new single, Mark Holley, Black Foxxes frontperson, says, “This song is purposefully written to have a pop structure, I wanted the song to sway back and forth in a repetitive manor to inject the listener with the hooks. The song is about balancing inner rage and calm; ‘You are the weather’ refers to feeling still and serene amongst another’s company; ‘I am the manic in me’, quickly interjects that, on my own, I can’t control the inner manic. It’s this back and forth that continues throughout the song, quickly transitioning between verses and chorus without any chord changes, keeping the listener guessing which side the coin will land. Calm or manic.”
The album name itself, Reiði, is the Icelandic word for rage. This theme runs true in “Manic In Me,” as Holley desperately sings about the need to get away. Holley has been very open on his struggles with anxiety and Crohn’s disease, and often that finds it’s way into their music. This album won’t be any different, but Holley does note that the album has a lighter first half and a darker second. “With our first record everything felt dynamically very similar,” he wrote. “We’re very proud of what we did with it, but it was a barrage of aggression I was letting out. Being out in Iceland and stuff just opened my eyes to different dynamics. We don’t want to be one of those bands that just stays in one genre. We want to be one of those bands where people go, ‘oh, what are Black Foxxes doing for this record?’ We want to surprise people with new things.”
