Need some new music in your life? Look no further than Tokyo, Japan’s Si,Irene. A little bit Ozma, a little bit Sunny Day Real Estate, but mostly just Si,Irene.
The five-piece’s newest release, a six-track EP titled BEES, certainly brings to mind the best of early aughts emo and nerd-rock, but it has the modern attractiveness of bands like Tiny Moving Parts, the Front Bottoms, and You Blew It! It’s a little raw but it gives it a damn fine charm, as do the nonchalant lead vocals and often cheery, upbeat backing vocals, too. This is a record you can dance to, sing along to, zone out to, or use for background. It’s multi-purpose and it’s packed with replay value.
You can get ahead of the curve on Si,Irene by streaming BEES in full below via Bandcamp and checking out their video for “Awful Pop Song” as well. Let us know if you’re jumping on the hype train before there’s room for all your friends.
