Nothing brings people closer together than making plans to commit murder.

Movies about murder are a dime a dozen anymore, and that’s not necessarily a problem. As more films flood the market the bar for quality is slowly raised. Some films will fall short and be forgotten, but others – those who find a way to stand out as an original work – will earn a place in the hearts and minds of moviegoers worldwide. Thoroughbreds looks to be an example of the latter, and the first teaser already has us champing at the bit for 2018 to arrive.

In Thoroughbreds, childhood friends Lily and Amanda reconnect in suburban Connecticut after years of growing apart. Lily has turned into a polished, upper-class teenager, with a fancy boarding school on her transcript and a coveted internship on her resume; Amanda has developed a sharp wit and her own particular attitude, but all in the process of becoming a social outcast. Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily’s contempt for her oppressive stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, they begin to bring out one another’s most destructive tendencies. Their ambitions lead them to hire a local hustler, Tim, and take matters into their own hands to set their lives straight.

You can view the first teaser for the film at the top of this post.

We have been supporting Anya Taylor-Joy since she burst onto the cinema landscape in The Witch. This role looks perfectly suited to her talents, which could also be said about the role given to Olivia Cooke, but it is hard not to place all your focus on the appearance of deceased acton Anton Yelchin when watching the footage above. Even in this brief series of clips we are reminded of the unique presence Yelchin brought to the screen. This will be one of our last opportunities to see him perform, and it looks like to be something quite memorable.

Thoroughbreds opens in March 2018. Comment below and let us know your thoughts on the first teaser.
