With otherworldly, over-the-top production and an atmosphere that manages to bring thousands of strangers together from festivals to nightclubs across the globe, EDM is a genre that’s best explained in a live setting. Like many DJs before him, Snails chose to debut his newest song “Only Want U” live before sharing the recorded version with the world, and in the clip above, you can see just how explosive the track is.
For the creation of “Only Want U”, the king of “vomitstep” has collaborated with Los Angeles-based producer NGHTMRE (Tyler Marenyi), whose melodic trap sounds make for a perfect contrast with Snails’ gnarly, twisted bass. Snails and NGHTMRE have teamed up with live electronic duo AKYLLA (Sherry St. Germain and Saratonin) to provide the vocals. When the refrain (“I’m running out back to you”) hits, things start to get really bizarre as the drop comes in.
The release of “Only Want U” comes shortly after Snails announced the release of his debut album The Shell, although no word yet on whether the track will be part of the album. Listen to the song on Spotify below, and stream or purchase on all major digital retailers here.
Snails has also announced more tour dates in support of the show. Following his “Sluggtopia” festival at Red Rocks Amphitheatre next month, he’ll hit cities all across North America for something that’s sure to be bigger and better than before, as he’s got a brand new custom production rig.
