The Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic Con is taking place as we speak, the first large panel today. The first trailer shown off at the panel isn’t a superhero flick (although those are probably coming soon), but a trailer fro Steven Spielberg’s latest directorial project, Ready Player One.
Based on the 2011 Ernest Cline novel of the same name, the movie is set in a heavily overcrowded future, as we see a world where homes are literally stacked on top of one another. Protagonist Wade Owen Watts (Tye Sheridan) is one of many people who spend their time in the Oasis, a virtual world where anything can happen. That anything includes mingling of movie characters like the Iron Giant and Freddy Kruger. A competition is clearly happening, as we see characters race and blast each other across a huge variety of gorgeous landscapes.
Ready Player One also stars Hannah John-Kamen, Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Cooke, and Simon Pegg. The movie is set for release sometime in 2018.
