Michael Bay recently said that he hopes to continue making Transformers films for as long as he has breath in his lungs. The franchise about machines that are more than meets the eye has already survived more than a decade of existence, so as long as Transformers: The Last Knight is as good as its new trailers appears to promise it seems safe to say Bay will get his wish.
In the new trailer, which found its way online Tuesday morning, a number of new plot details for The Last Knight were finally revealed. It seems Optimus Prime is forced to turn his back on the human race at the behest of his creator, a mysterious floating figure we see teased briefly in the latest footage. Prime claims later in the trailer that in order for Earth to survive his home must be destroyed, which is the conflict at the center of the film. A bunch of explosions and nonsense regarding King Arthur also flashes on screen, as well as a few shots of Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg). Check it out:
The official plot synopsis for Transformers: The Last Knight reads:
The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).
Will this Transformers film find a way to be more over-the-top than its predecessors? All signs currently point to yet, but we won’t know for sure until the film arrives in theaters in June. Stay tuned.
