Filmmaker Eric England more than proved his ability to make any on-screen romance uncomfortable with the release of his 2013 horror film Contracted, and this year he’s back to do it again. Get The Girl follows a young man who takes a decidedly twisted path to winning over the woman of his dreams, but in order to appreciate how awry things go you really have to see the film’s first trailer.

Hitting theaters later this month via Orion Pictures, Get The Girl will mark England’s first film in nearly three years. The first trailer introduces us to a young man who has fallen for a girl who doesn’t know he exists. Desperate to show her he is someone worth getting to know, the man arranges the girl’s kidnapping so he can swoop in and save her, thus making her fall in love with him. Things quickly go sideways, however, and before long the bodies start piling up. Check it out:

Get The Girl stars Justin Dobies, Elizabeth Whitson, and Noah Segan.

All of England’s work boasts a unique color palette that might not have made the final cut if it weren’t for the fact that he is one of only a few colorblind filmmakers working in Hollywood today. We plan to share an interview with England about the challenges and opportunities this creates a bit closer to the release of Get The Girl, but for now just watch the trailer above a few more times and await the film’s January 27 street date.
