The year of Eric Nally is officially upon us. After making the move to pop with an appearance on Macklemore‘s hit single “Downtown” in 2016 the Foxy Shazam frontman has finally unveiled the first details of his highly-anticipated solo project.

Partnering with Billboard over the weekend, Nally shared the video for a new single called “Ruby” that is apparently taken from an EP titled Madville that is due later this year. The song toes the line between modern pop and rock with an infectious, even hypnotic melody that is impossible to shake. Speaking to Billboard about the song and its lyrics, Nally commented:

“The way the lyrics come across to me is she’s struggling with this… whatever it might be in her life, it’s haunting her. In my head, I was playing the role of the song, like I was playing the song itself, which kind of haunts your mind as you’re writing it. If you think about it as your career, it’s always looming around until you finally get control at the end and defeat it and you’re either able to control it and nail it or, in this case, she wins.”

Nally has not revealed his plans for the remainder of 2017, but with the EP release slated for fall we imagine at least a few live appearances will surface in the weeks ahead. Follow Substream on Twitter for more information.
