Going all the way back to The Maltese Falcon and films of its kind, Hollywood has always had an obsession with detective work. You can’t blame them, as there’s something enthralling about watching a team of highly intelligent and intuitive individuals solve a crime. Netflix has just released a trailer for their upcoming original film Handsome: A Netflix Mystery Movie, and it is… sort of about all that.
Judging from the trailer, the movie is a send-up of the detective genre. The Goldbergs‘ Jeff Garlin stars as Gene Handsome, which is the best possible name for a detective. After a local woman turns up dead, it’s a race between the police force and the witnesses and suspects to see who is more incompetent. For fans of the detective genre, it appears to be a loving ode to a long cinematic tradition. For everyone else, there’s Orange is the New Black‘s Natasha Lyonne absolutely killing it with the offbeat humor as Handsome’s partner, Fleur Scozzari.
