Excuse Me, Who Are You?, also known as EMWAY?, has recently signed to the newly formed Seattle based label PNWK.
The self-described screamo flavored, midwest Emo outfit is one of the most exciting bands coming out of the scene. Hailing from Madison, Wisconsin, EMWAY? is the most recent signing for PNWK, who is also the home to bands The Casper Fight Scene, Tiny Voices and more.
EMWAY? is an experience in DIY that you will never see again but is shockingly familiar. Call it midwest emo, call it screamo, call it whatever you want, EMWAY? is all of that and more. From their debut EP, “About That Beer I Owed Ya” to their first LP, “Double Bind”, you can find any and every genre. Jazzy interpretive bass, math-rock like guitar, syncopated drums crashing, and screams that could put your favorite metal band to shame, there is no shortage on what this band pulls off.
Nostalgic at its core, EMWAY?, runs with themes and ideas of stuff you love and brings it into a new light. This is music meant for a burnt CD your friend gives you at your locker, you can almost envision yourself hearing it in the background of a LAN party. This isn’t dismissive at all, this is to show the true emotion this band brings to everything they write. Scream with the band, mic or not, because EMWAY? is always meant for energy being brought straight back to them. Cry and writhe to tracks like “https://mimasroom.com” and go ballistic to “Let’s End All Of This”. This group is loud, fast, and heartfelt and you will feel every ounce anytime a note rings out from them.”
EMWAY is:
Hayden Johnson – Drums
Jackson Pertzborn – Bass

About PNWK & Their Philosophy – Robert & Sam
When we started thinking about starting a record label– we asked ourselves “what do record labels even do nowadays?” Back in the late 90’s – early 2000’s when Robert started his first record label, Classic Filth Records, labels did a lot of things that bands couldn’t do. Today, bands can do almost everything themselves– record and release music, merchandise design and fulfillment, tour booking, PR, etc. But just because you can do-it-yourself, doesn’t mean that bands necessarily have the means or want to. That’s where we come in.
Instead of DIY, we’re DIT– doing it together.
We help alleviate any headwinds and blockers bands may face so that they can focus their time and energy on the stuff that matters most: the art. Though the needs of each band are unique, all of our bands have access to the same resources and support. As a label, we do what we can to allow artists and their art to flourish. Some key aspects of our approach with our bands include, but are not limited to:
-
Bands don’t “owe us” anything. That means our investment in their music does not require repayment.
-
Bands have full autonomy and ownership of their music (aka they own their masters).
-
We are 100% transparent. Every band receives the same contract, if a new band negotiates a better contract, it’s retroactively offered to all previous bands.
-
We are invested in our bands’ long-term success. We expect to lose money in the first two years, so they don’t have to.
We still don’t know what record labels do, but it doesn’t matter. We’re doing it our way and seeing if it works. We hope that you enjoy the journey because we are.
