Today, rising alt/pop rocker Zoe Ko has been announced as the latest signing to Big Loud Rock — the alt/rock imprint of Big Loud Records and home to artists like HARDY, Letdown., Blame My Youth, Jagwar Twin, and Yam Haus — in partnership with Double Down 11.
In celebration of the announcement, Ko has released her new angsty, rock-infused single “DIRT,” which is out now and can be found below.
Co-written and produced by Jonny Shorr (UPSAHL, GAYLE), Ko showcases her artistic evolution on the new track, which is her first release since last year’s debut EP Baby Teeth. Driven by electric guitar and powerful, bold vocals, “DIRT” resonates with the spirit of her new era while paying homage to the sounds of her past.
On the inspiration behind the single, Ko explains, “I’m from NYC baby!! Raised there my whole life, I wouldn’t be the crazy bad bitch I am without it. NYC is often looked down upon for its grit, intense hustle and bustle, garbage on the street, rats, pigeons, cockroaches, scary subways, etc. But to me, though sometimes admittedly not the most wonderful things to endure, those elements of the city were fun, real and influenced me into becoming an adaptable and adventurous person.”
She continues, “When I moved to LA I missed all the grit and dirt NYC had. I missed its rawness and the people in it. So a few weeks into living here I walked into Jonny’s (prod and co writer) studio and started ranting about how much I miss NYC and its “dirt” and how I didn’t understand where LA was hiding theirs. I loved the word DIRT so much I decided it needed to be turned into a gritty dance track I would hear in one of my favorite clubs in NYC, so I could bring some of NYC’s dirt to the city of angels.”
Double Down 11 is a producer and songwriter management company, publisher, record label and A&R consulting company. Founded by Evan Lipschutz, an A&R executive with over 20 years experience signing artists and making records.
Speaking on the partnership and signing, Lipschutz shares, “Forming this creative partnership with Big Loud was a natural match. Seth England was the first publisher that I ever met in Nashville, Joey Moi and I had been making rock records together for years prior to his move to Nashville, and Greg Thompson was running departments and working records I had made as an A&R person. I aim to grow Double Down 11 in the same way that Big Loud has grown, based on great songwriters and producers nurturing talent to be the best artists they can be.”
He continues, “Signing Zoe Ko as the first artist under partnership with Big Loud was a seamless proposition. Zoe was developed by songwriter/producer client Jonny Shorr over 2023 with her numerous singles and Baby Teeth EP. When I showed the Big Loud team the work he had done, it was clear that she felt like the perfect blend of an artist to make a statement of intent with…she’s exciting, fearless and has an iconic singing and lyrical voice that will undoubtedly be a mirror of her generation.”
Thompson adds, “Knowing Evan for years and always respecting his ability to develop and find great artists, producers and music, this was a no-brainer.”
