Today, alt/pop trio Smallpools have shared another new single, “Fake A Happy Face!,” which is out now and can be found below.
“Fake A Happy Face!” is lifted from their upcoming EP, Ghost Town Road (East), which is the first part in a two-part album release, and will be released on April 5th. “Fake A Happy Face!” is the latest taste of the release — following “Motorbike (Wild Ones)” and “Night Shift” — and is a catchy, cathartic track that works to unpack the difficulty of separating social media from real life.
“‘Fake a Happy Face!’ is about yearning to escape, to start over, lying in bed with the weight of the world upon you,” Smallpools says on the new single. “There are so many mixed emotions that switch on a dime. Everything’s great and everything sucks. ‘Fake a Happy Face!’ and keep on cruising the best you can.”
Listen to “Fake a Happy Face!” below.
Arriving in two parts, Ghost Town Road was written and recorded at Mike Kamerman’s house in Los Angeles, with collaborations from colin creeV of Third Eye Blind and Mitchy Collins of lovelytheband. The new effort embodies duality — a reaffirmation of Smallpools’ anthemic, genre-blending alt-pop and also an elegy for a bygone era, understanding the allure of nostalgia while trying not to get stuck in the past.
Smallpools is also heading out on their Night Shift Spring 2024 co-headline tour with Grayscale, with Beach Weather serving as support. Experience the band’s energetic live show and watch them perform the new music for the first time by purchasing tickets here.
