Last year, beloved alternative/emo/rock band Say Anything returned from a lengthy hiatus with the release of three singles “Psyche!,” “Are You (In) There?,” and “Carrie & Lowell & Cody (Pendent)” ushering in a reinvigorated and renaissance period for the band.
The singles were left as standalone at the time, as Say Anything pushed on with a handful of sold out shows in New York City and Los Angeles, and made appearances at Chicago’s Riot Fest and Las Vegas’ When We Were Young. And just a few months ago, Say Anything announced a 20th anniversary tour in celebration of their breakout album …Is a Real Boy, which takes place this spring/summer across the United States.
Now, Say Anything have announced that they will be releasing their first full-length album in five years, …Is Committed, on May 24th via Dine Alone Records. The record finds the band’s architect and frontman Max Bemis reuniting with producer Brad Wood (Sunny Day Real Estate, Mewithoutyou) who had previously produced the band’s seminal double album, …In Defense of the Genre.
In addition to announcing the new album, the band have shared another new single, “I, Vibrator,” which seres as a comical yet heartfelt ode to Bemis’ wife, Sherri Dupree-Bemis, who can also be heard on the track.
Speaking on the new song, Bemis writes: “‘I, VIBRATOR’ is about wanting to be objectified as a righteous tool against the patriarchy for a particular girl to use at will. One great tool for any historically undermined person with a vagina is a disembodied, always-ready penis, a role I’m proud and lucky to play for a certain lady in my life that may have been brought up to believe sex is for dudes and she isn’t the one with all the fucking power in the world.”
