K.Flay has been at the front of our minds in 2019, with her single “Bad Vibes” serving as one of the strongest releases of the year. If you’re a fan who has been wanting more, there’s some good news for you today. K.Flay announced her third studio album Solutions will be arriving this summer, shared a sizable list of tour dates, and dropped new single “This Baby Don’t Cry.”
Let’s start with what we can actually listen to today. “This Baby Don’t Cry” is K.Flay in top form. The track is built on the slickest bass line you could ever hope for and an engaging array of percussion, claps, and snaps. She’s sick of caring about what other people think about her, so “This Baby Don’t Cry” is all about the fact she’s simply stopped caring about it. The deadpan delivery of the verses sells how little she thinks about these things now, and the liberation and thrill of letting go in the chorus is earned. The tangle of guitar and bass as the song progresses makes for a fun listen, and overall “This Baby Don’t Cry” is the perfect track to blare in rebuttal to everyone who tries to tell you how to live your life.
Solutions is ten tracks long and will drop on July 12. The album comes from a personal space for K.Flay and was inspired by some struggles she felt after her last tour. She said in a press release:
“When I got home from tour, I was in a dark place. Eventually, I made a decision to focus on the things that actually make me happy: walking around my neighborhood, drawing in notebooks with markers, talking to my mom on the phone. I thought, ‘What did I do as a kid to be happy?’ As a child, you don’t have access to alcohol, drugs, sex, caffeine. I looked back, when I had fun just by making music. I remembered the first time I wrote a song, burned a CD, and played it in my car. It’s the closest thing I’ve ever had to a religious experience. I reconnected with that spirit and stopped taking shit so seriously.”
