No matter how tough things get, it’s important to find a little bit of happiness in each day. It doesn’t have to be as big as taking a road trip or any other spontaneous adventure (although if you can, go for it). It can be something as simple as eating your favorite food for a snack or putting on a record that makes you smile. Artist Jackie Venson is here with a song that fits the bill for that last suggestion, and that song is “Joy.” The titular track from Venson’s upcoming album, “Joy” is bringing us happiness right now with our premiere this afternoon.

Venson can do wonders with a guitar, which makes the beginning of “Joy” a bit of a surprise. There’s no guitar to be found, just percussion and a bass. This proves to be a good decision. The sound is still warm and inviting, with Venson singing about the positive outlook she has decided to take on life. It’s when the chorus hits where she starts in on the guitar, and the wait is very much worth it. The guitar booms out above everything, a triumphant moments as Venson sings “I choose joy.” It’s exciting, it’s inspiring, and it sounds absolutely incredible.

Besides Venson, “Joy” has some serious talent behind it. She co-produced the track alongside Chris “Frenchie” Smith (Jet, The Dandy Warhols) and it was mixed by Tim Palmer (Pearl Jam).

Joy the album is out on April 5, and you can stream “Joy” the track below.
