As we wait patiently for March 29, we finally have another preview of what’s to come. Billie Eilish has released a brand new track today, ‘wish you were gay’, taken from her forthcoming debut full-length ‘WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?’. This one is not exactly new— a rough-cut demo of ‘wish you were gay’ first made the rounds online back 2017, and quickly became an unreleased fan favorite. Billie herself recorded an acoustic version of it for Instagram live, but finally, a studio version has now surfaced. The song playfully details the longing and consequent coping of teenage lust and rejection.

“‘wish you were gay’ is about wanting to be with someone so bad it hurts, and not wanting to accept that this person doesn’t want you in return,” Eilish reveals of the song. “At least if they were gay, I’d have a valid reason for their rejection and lack of interest in being with me. I wrote the song when I was 14 and madly in love with a boy. It’s supposed to be a fun and playful way at dealing with rejection.” ‘wish you were gay’ debuted Monday as a World Record on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1, and has a visual to accompany it. You can hear Eilish talk more about the song in the video below.

The song follows the LP’s first single, “bury a Friend”, released back in January, which gave us a taste of the album’s dark themes, and inspired the rest of the songs. It is about , she told Beats 1’s Zane Lowe in an interview earlier this week.

Billie had also announced a massive North American tour last month to support her debut full length, but as of now, every date is sold out. You can try Stubhub. See below for a current list of dates, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated if more dates are added.
