It’s January, which means it’s just about time to start thinking about Valentine’s Day. You might be groaning, but putting thought into the holiday is important. If you’re seeing someone romantically, you’ll now have plenty of time to plan a perfect day with them. If you’re single, you can plan out the route of stores to go to when all the chocolate goes on sale. Ohio’s The Candescents are giving all of us a gift this Valentine’s Day, with their upcoming EP Grass slated to drop that day. They’ve given us an advance gift today, with the release of the EP’s title track, “Grass.”

I associate grass with sunshine, and there’s a whole lot of sunshine on “Grass.” As always when it comes to The Candescents, the riffs are crisp and flow pleasantly into a brief, but highly pleasant two and a half minutes. “Grass” is made up of a lot of warm, vibrant chords and joyful drumming which will surely put a smile on your face as you think of warmer weather and warm memories. Alex Harris delivers the lyrics earnestly, with a cadence that will quickly wrap listeners up in a whirlwind of emotion. It’s cold outside, but “Grass” will keep you feeling cozy.

Grass the EP is set for release on February 14 through Dirty Hit. “Grass” the song is available for you to stream below.
