Laura Stevenson is celebrating her mother’s birthday a bit differently this year. Some people give their parents flowers or some other gift, but she is electing to release two new songs for her mother: “The Mystic and the Master” and “Maker of Things.”

Laura Stevenson wrote both songs about her experience of being raised by a young, single mom, making a great inspiration for the tracks. All proceeds from sales off Bandcamp will go to Safe Horizon, which is a non-profit organization that supports and empowers survivors of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

“I grew up watching my mom go through so much,” Laura Stevenson explains, who recorded these songs with producer Joe Rogers (who previously engineered her 2015 album Cocksure) in her childhood home on Long Island earlier his year. “I just wanted to share this as aw ay of showing her my appreciation for everything she endured while raising me and my sister.”
