Doomsday scenarios have long been an area that various forms of media have mined deeply. Disaster movies, The Walking Dead, and more video games than could ever be listed have wondered what happens during and after the end of civilization. Some of these tales have been good, some have been bad, but none of them have been quite as funky as what South Carolina band Stop Light Observations have in mind. The band has foreseen the end, and they’re sharing their vision in the form of new single “2young.”
The first thing you’ll notice about the end of the world on “2young” is that there’s a lot of piano involved. This is undoubtedly a good thing. The gleefully wild line the piano plays instantly sets the tone for the song, which is a lot of fun considering the subject matter. It’s clear vocalist Will Blackburn is having the time of his life with the lyrics, with all sorts of wild imagery and fantastic details in his tale of the end. Everything gets kicked up even further during the back half of “2young,” where Stop Light Observations really put their all into the track.
You can listen to “2young” below. Hopefully the end isn’t anytime soon, but Stop Light Observations have your soundtrack for when it comes.
