Peach Pit‘s brand of chewed bubblegum pop was something that I talked about ad nauseam when Being So Normal was released last September. Still, it’s something worth talking about again. The way this band is able to bake the kind of straightforward and sugary hooks of traditional pop music into one of the most chilled out incarnations of the genre is impeccable; the verses feel purposely lackadaisical and each hook is so pristine that they’re bound to be lodged into your memory on impact. It’s a cool juxtaposition sonically, but the real icing on the cake comes from the fact that each member of Peach Pit looks like they were ripped straight out of a bad 90’s sitcom.

It’s muted pastels, turtlenecks, and tucked in sweaters that help really drive the look home. It’s blatantly bland enough that you draw comparisons to the likes of Ned Flanders, which is something that I also spoke about around the time the record came out. Today, I’m excited to share the music video for a track from Being So Normal called “Alrighty Aphrodite,” which works as another cog in the machine that is the Peach Pit aesthetic. The band is seen in full promo-photo uniform in a video that scrawls backward and shows a tumultuous journey into the haven of the van. It’s eerie and made to look like the band’s take on The Blair Witch Project, which works shockingly well with the sort of somber vibe that radiates from each note of the track.

When asked about the video, Peach Pit says: “We shot the video back in January with 90’s horror movies in mind. It was actually pretty funny because on the way to the shoot, a man came up to us as we were putting snow chains on the tires and was like ‘you kids better be careful out here, lotsa people with guns, that’s why I always carry a gun.’ It scared the crap out of us! Our director, Lester, came up with the idea for the video after a camping trip there last summer. It’s kind of our default place to go with our friends on the weekend – we shoot potato canons across the river and make tarp saunas on the beach.”

Watch the music video for “Alrighty Aphrodite” above. The track comes from Peach Pit’s debut album Being So Normal which is available for purchase/stream now. You can catch the band on tour starting this October. All upcoming dates can be found below.
