Joyce Manor have announced that their highly-anticipated new album, Million Dollars to Kill Me, will be released on September 21st. It will be serve as their third album released through Epitaph Records, and the follow-up to 2016’s Cody.
Where Cody focused on growing up, Million Dollars to Kill Me shows Joyce Manor looking at what happens next: reckonings with love, confusion, money, doubt, and the hope that still persists despite all of that. The album still augments that tension with their guitar work; guitarist Chase Knobbe’s ability to make songs sound sadder and tougher all at once, and guitarist/vocalist Barry Johnson’s knack for mixing major and minor chords together to invoke a precise sound.
The new record was produced by Converge‘s Kurt Ballou, and was recorded at Ballou’s GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts. During the recording process, Joyce Manor all stayed at the upstairs of the studio, which “kinda felt like camp,” according to Johnson. Million Dollars to Kill Me was then mixed by Andrew Scheps (Weezer, Green Day, AFI).
To celebrate the announcement, the band released the title-track off the album, which can be streamed at the top of this post. The track features Britpop-esque hooks and centers on Joyce Manor’s poignant lyrics.
In case that wasn’t enough, the band also announced a headlining tour for this upcoming fall. Joyce Manor kicks off the tour on October 9th in Woodstock, New York and wraps up on November 3rd in San Francisco, California. Tickets go on-sale this Friday, July 20th at 10am local time.
