Laura Marling and Mike Lindsay are two of the most talented, multi-faceted musicians going right now. Marling’s album Semper Femina was one of my favorite releases of 2017, and Lindsay’s production work and time with folk band Tunng is unparalleled. Put them together, and that’s a recipe for magic. That’s exactly what’s happened with Marling and Lindsay’s joint project LUMP, whose debut album is coming out in June. In anticipation of that release, the pair have released a new single entitled “Late To The Flight.”

While it contains traces of both of their roots, “Late To The Flight” is unlike anything Marling and Lindsay have done before. A low electric hum underscores the song, and the instrumental consists of a guitar plucked with very deliberate intent. Marling’s vocals are haunting and affecting, and the numerous lulls and crescendos will definitely keep listeners on their toes. Going in with open ears and an open mind is an absolute must here.

You can listen to “Late To The Flight” below. If you like what you hear, LUMP’s self-titled debut album will be out on June 1 on Dead Oceans.
