Motivated in part by certain criticisms surrounding their last album, Refill, Minneapolis ska ensemble Umbrella Red are back with a new full-length, titled Rotate, and the proof of improvement is in the pudding.

To be fair, there’s still plenty of room for the eight-piece to grow and strengthen, but Rotate is a fun, mostly upbeat, horn-heavy ska and punk romp that at the very least serves as decent background noise while you’re cleaning the house or polishing your brass. You can stream the album in its entirety below via Soundcloud. Rotate is out now via German label Mad Butcher.

As ska fades from the collective memory of music lovers, bands like Umbrella Red try their best to keep the torch lit and the black-and-white-checkered flag held high. Do you think it’s working?
